Rethinking Scientific Applications for Exascale and Emerging Architectures: CoE Workshop at HiPEAC 2026

On January 27, the Centres of Excellence will meet at HiPEAC 2026 to discuss HPC and Quantum applications for next-generation architectures, fostering collaboration within the European computing systems community.

On Tuesday, January 27, from 10:00 to 17:30, leading researchers from European Centres of Excellence (CoEs) will meet at HiPEAC 2026 in Krakow to discuss the future of scientific applications in High Performance Computing (HPC) and Quantum Computing (QC).

The workshop will focus on the challenges of adapting or rewriting legacy codes for exascale and emerging heterogeneous architectures. Participants will share experiences in developing and modernising algorithms for next-generation platforms. Key strategies and potential solutions to improve performance will be discussed.

This event builds on the success of previous HiPEAC workshops, such as “From Petascale to Exascale and Beyond” and “Tackling Software Exascale Challenges.” It aims to strengthen collaboration between HPC and Quantum CoEs. Contributions from early-career researchers and underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged. Organisers from leading CoEs will guide discussions, share best practices, and promote cooperation across the community.

This workshop is a key opportunity for the CoEs community to align efforts in modernising scientific applications for exascale computing. By sharing knowledge and solutions, it strengthens the EuroHPC ecosystem and supports scientific progress across Europe.

HiPEAC (High Performance, Edge, and Cloud computing) is Europe’s premier network for computing systems research. Since 2004, it has connected over 2,500 researchers, industry representatives, and students. HiPEAC advances computing systems across Europe by strengthening research, nurturing talent, building a dynamic ecosystem, and aligning research with societal impact. HiPEAC 2026 continues this mission by providing a platform for knowledge exchange between academia and industry.
